2023 Spokane, WA, USA - Wetland Restoration through the Lens of Early Career Scientists

  • Nearly 85% of wetlands have been lost globally since the 1700s, with over 90% loss occurring in some areas. There is great interest in wetland restoration, especially now as we enter the United Nations’ declared Decade of Ecosystem Restoration from 2021-2030. As wetland restoration continues to evolve and incorporate new technology, methods, management strategies, and multi-disciplinary knowledge, there are opportunities to both learn from long-time wetland professionals and build new capacity through developing leaders in wetland restoration. The focus of this symposium, sponsored by the Wetland Restoration Section of SWS, is to highlight current research in the field of wetland restoration from various early career scientists and stimulate discussion that benefits restoration professionals at all career stages.

  • Lead organizer: Whitney Sauskojus, North Dakota State University, Restoration Section Student Member At-Large, whitney.sauskojus@ndsu.edu
